Fjällräven was born from the vision of one man, to make nature more accessible to more people. Åke Nordin, the founder of Fjällräven, was born in 1936 in Örnsköldsvik in the Höga Kusten region of Sweden. The area has many hills, dense forests and a sheltered coast, where Åke used to play and have adventures.

On one of Åke’s adventures, he got the idea of Fjällräven. He needed to create a rucksack in which all the equipment could fit, but which would also be comfortable to carry on the back.

Åke sewed with his mother’s sewing machine and built a wooden frame in his basement with his father’s tools. Ten years later, in 1960, he founded Fjällräven in that same basement, and launched his first product.

Later, Fjällräven’s product range expanded with tents, sleeping bags, jackets and pants. The Greenland Jacket, Expedition Down Jacket and Kånken backpack have expanded the offer so that in Sweden alone, every second Swede is a Fjällräven user and a person who trusts the brand.
