EDELRID boasts a rich history spanning 160 years, dating back to its founding in June 1863. Initially, Schachenmayer & Cie focused solely on the production of strands and cords. Today, EDELRID has evolved into a global manufacturer renowned for its climbing ropes, mountaineering gear, and work safety equipment. Over the course of its history, the company has navigated a series of triumphs and challenges. For instance, the development of the kernmantle rope marked a significant milestone in mountaineering, but shortly thereafter, a devastating fire nearly wiped out the entire production. In the 1970s, EDELRID introduced the groundbreaking seat climbing harness, only to face yet another destructive fire in the years that followed. These alternating periods of adversity and success have collectively shaped EDELRID into the reputable company it is today.
