Spend three days traveling through the Lemmenjoki wilderness by water, combining paddling, hiking, and camping. You can choose whether to travel on a stand-up paddleboard or in a packraft, depending on your preference – both offer a unique way to experience the river. Along the way, you’ll explore historic sites, remote camps, and one of the largest wilderness areas in Europe.

Itinerary
Day 1: Njurkulahti - Kultahamina
We start with a transfer to Lemmenjoki and continue by boat to Kultahamina, an area known for its gold rush history. From there, we take a short hike to the original gold discovery site (1.7 km one way, approx. 2.4 km total).
After exploring the historic area, we head along the river and begin paddling towards Ravadasjärvi, covering the first section of the route. We stop for lunch at a wilderness hut along the way.
In the afternoon, we take a hike to the Ravadas waterfall (approximately 0.7–3 km depending on the route) before setting up camp nearby. The evening includes free time for fishing or relaxing, followed by an open-fire dinner.
Day 2: Ravadas - Joenkielinen
After breakfast, we pack up camp and continue paddling from Ravadasköngäs towards Joenkielinen. This is a full day on the river, with a steady pace and varied sections as we make our way downstream to the next campsite.
We stop for lunch along the way, with time for fishing and short breaks before arriving and setting up camp for the night.
Day 3: Joenkielinen - Njurkulahti via Kaapin Jouni homestead
The final day begins with a hike to Joenkielinen mountain (around 6 km total), offering wide views over the Lemmenjoki valley and surrounding fell landscapes. After lunch, we pack up camp and continue with the final paddling section (approximately 5 km) towards Njurkulahti.
Along the way, we stop at the Kaapin Jouni homestead to learn about the life of this well-known Sámi reindeer herder and his family. From Njurkulahti, we return by car to Ivalo.
