FAQ

What is gold panning like in Finland?

Gold panning in Finland has a long history, especially in the northern regions where small amounts of gold can still be found in rivers and soil. During the experience, you’ll learn traditional techniques used by prospectors and get to try it yourself. It’s a simple but rewarding activity, and with a bit of luck, you might even find a small piece of gold to keep.

Do we really get to keep the gold we find?

Yes. Any small flakes or pieces you find while panning at Tankavaara Gold museum are yours to keep. While large finds are rare, the experience itself is part of the fun.

Is gold panning suitable for children?

Yes. Gold panning is easy to learn and suitable for all ages. It’s a hands-on activity that works well for both children and adults, with guidance provided throughout.

What is the dog sledding experience like?

Dog sledding is a smooth and enjoyable way to move through the winter landscape. You’ll ride in a sled pulled by a team of huskies, guided by an experienced musher. The ride combines quiet moments in nature with the energy of the dogs.

Can I pet the huskies?

There is usually time to meet and interact with the dogs. Huskies are friendly and used to people, but they are also working animals, so they should be approached calmly and with guidance from your guide. You’ll be shown how to interact with them safely and respectfully.
